Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers!)

Q: WHY DO WE PRAISE GOD AUDIBLY?
A: For the same reason we cheer at a sports games - with far more reason!  We are excited about being on God's team and want everyone to know it - especially Him!

"I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips."
Psalms 34:1 New International Version (NIV)

Q: WHY DO WE STAND WHEN WE SING?
A: We sing to show our love for God; we stand to show our respect and sincerity in that love. We stand for a great performance on Broadway... who is more deserving of a standing ovation that the Creator of the universe?

Chronicles 20:19 (NIV)

Q: WHY DO WE LIFT OUR HANDS?
A:  The first thing a child does is raise up his or her arms--to be held close by the one who loves him or her.  There is nothing more special than to be encircled by the loving arms of God.

"I will praise you as long as I believe, and in your name I will lift my hands."
Psalms 63:4 (NIV)

Q: WHY DO WE SING CHORUSES AND HYMNS?
A:  Every person is unique, but the one thing we all have in common is a God who loves us and who gave us each other, as well as Himself.  We sing to express our joy and appreciation.  We sing together because He made us to be together, His own family.

Ephesians 5:18-19 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Q: WHY DOES THE WHOLE CHURCH PRAY AT ONCE FOR SPECIFIC NEEDS?
A:  God created us to be a family, to rejoice with one another in times of joy and to support and encourage one another in times of hardship and need.  Our Heavenly Father listens to our prayer and meets our needs, and nothing pleases Him more than to hear us selflessly care and pray for one another.

"Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor...rejoicing in hope, preserving in tribulation, devoted to prayer..."
Romans 12:10,12 (NASB)

"When they heard this they raised their voices together in prayer to God, 'Sovereign Lord,' they said, 'you made the heavens and the earth.'

"Praise him with the sounding of the trumpets, praise him with the harp lyre, praise him with the tambourine and dancing, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals."
Psalms 150:3-5 (NIV)

Q: WHY DO WE ANOINT WITH OIL AND PRAY FOR THE SICK?
A: We know God answers prayers and honors obedience.  Because of this, we faithfully follow His instructions (written in the Bible) of what to do in every circumstance.

"Is any of you sick?  He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well, and the Lord will raise him up."
James 5:14 (NIV)

Q: WHY DO WE HAVE SPEAKING IN TONGUES AND INTERPRETATION OF THOSE TONGUES DURING OUR SERVICES?
A: This is the evidence of two of the many gifts God has given us and is called the speaking and interpretation of tongues (or other languages).  Like any loving parent, God wants to give His children gifts that will draw us closer to Him and to one another.  This is one of the many ways God uses to speak to us and is used by Him as a sign to those who do not know Him, to let everyone know how much He truly cares.

"Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good...to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues."
I Corinthians 12:7, 10 (NIV)

"If any man speaks in a tongue, two, or at the most three, should speak, one at a time and someone must interpret."
I Corinthians 14:27 (NIV)

Q: WHY DO PEOPLE SPEAK OUT IN OUR OWN LANGUAGE, AS IF IT IS A MESSAGE FROM GOD?
A:  That is called a message of prophecy, and similar to tongues, is another method for God to speak to us.  Again, God wants us to know how much He cares. He knows what is going on in each of our lives - our circumstances, our trials, and the desires of our heart.  He speaks to us through prophecy to give us the comfort and encouragement only He can provide, letting us know He is always here for us.

"But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort.  He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church."
I Corinthians 14:3-4

Q: WHY DO WE BAPTIZE?
A: After a person has had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ and believes that He died for his or her sins, the bible says that person should follow the example of Jesus by being baptized in water. This is an outward declaration a person makes to show the inward change that God has brought about  in his or her life.

Q: WHY DO WE DEDICATE OUR BABIES AND CHILDREN?
A: This is a time when parents make a free-will decision to present their baby to God in the context of the church family for His blessings and protection; for His service, purpose, and plan. This is not a Christening or baptism, but a commitment to raise their child to know Christ and to teach him or her the Word of God. It is a public and formal declaration of partnership with God to bring about His will for the child.

Q: WHY DO GIVE COMMUNION?
A: This is a time for all Christians to follow the words of jesus when he said, "Do this in remembrance of me." It is a time to pause and remember the sacrifice Jsus made by dying for our sins. We believe that the bread represents the body and the juice represents the blood of Jesus Christ. Communion is open to anyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior; you do not have to be a member of our church to participate.
